Egon DIENES-OEHM

Dr. Egon Dienes-Oehm was elected Judge of the Constitutional Court by Parliament in June 2011, with effect from 1 September 2011.

He was graduated from the Faculty of Law of József Attila University in 1968 (cum laude). Later he earned other degrees and qualifications: he qualified as barrister and as legal adviser (Budapest, 1973), he followed a course on commercial policy of GATT (in French language, Geneva, 1979), a course on the international financial system at a free university (Budapest, 1984) and he qualified as lawyer of foreign trade (Budapest, 1985).

He started his professional career at public companies and financial institutions. Between 1968 and 1975 his professional activity was focusing on civil cases of enterprises and on liability for damages under international private law. Since 1975 he worked in the Public Administration /Ministry of Foreign Trade and its legal successors, after 1996 Ministry of Foreign Affairs/, first he dealt with international trade, later with European integration. He was deputy under-secretary of state for integration issues, he had the rank of secretary of state and from 2003 he had the rank of deputy under-secretary of state. Between 2003 and 2007 – as an ambassador – he was deputy Permanent Representative at the Permanent Representation of Hungary to the European Union in Brussels. For his activity displayed in the field of integration of Hungary he was awarded the middle cross order of merit of the Republic of Hungary (military division). His most important scientific and educational activities are: between 1987 and 1998 he was an invited lecturer at the József Attila University in Szeged /his subjects were: International Economic Law and Law of the European Comunity/, from 1993 until 1998 he is lecturer at the University of Miskolc /subjects: European integration and EC law/, since 1997 he is lecturer and honorary senior lecturer at the Pázmány Péter Catholic University of Budapest. He is author and co-author of numerous studies, university lecture notes and other publications on international trade,on protection of investments, on company law, on European integration and on European Comunity law. Since 2003 he has been member of the Panel of Conciliators of the International Center of the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
