From March 1998 to March 2007 he was Judge, from August 2003 to March 2007 Vice-President of the Constitutional Court.

After graduating from the Faculty of Law of Eötvös Loránd University of Budapest (ELTE) in 1962, he worked for the National Institute of Criminology until 1970. He then started teaching at the Department of Criminal Procedure of the Faculty of Law of ELTE, of which for ten years he was Head of Department as well. He obtained his candidate’s degree in 1985 and qualified as a university lecturer in 1994. His main fields of research are the Theory of Evidence and Comparative Criminal Procedure Law.
