Csaba HENDE

Member of the Constitutional Court since 1 June 2025.

He graduated summa cum laude in 1984 from the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of Eötvös Loránd University. He passed his bar examination with distinction in 1986 and was a member of the Bar Association of Vas County between 1987 and 2001. He practised as a trainee lawyer and later as an attorney-at-law from 16 April 1984 until 31 October 1991, and again between 1 October 1994 and 13 July 1998.
Between 1991 and 1995 he served at the Ministry of Defence, initially as Parliamentary Secretary, later as Head of the Department of Administration and Law, and subsequently as Chief of Cabinet to the Minister, concurrently holding the office of Parliamentary Secretary.

From 14 July 1998 until 26 May 2002 he held the position of State Secretary at the Ministry of Justice, and between 2010 and 2015 he served as Minister of Defence of Hungary.

From 2002 until his assumption of judicial office at the Constitutional Court, he was a Member of the National Assembly.

His principal parliamentary positions included: Clerk of the National Assembly between 21 February 2005 and 13 May 2010; Member of the Defence Committee between 2002 and 2006; Member of the National Security Committee between 2006 and 2010; Member of the Committee on Legislation from 2015 onwards, serving as its Vice-Chair between 2015 and 2017, and as its Chair from October 2017, while also acting as Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly responsible for legislation.

Between 1998 and 2002 he chaired the National Bar Examination Board, and as of 1 October 2024 he has been appointed Professor of Public Service at the National University of Public Service.
