András Szabó, former judge of the Constitutional Court deceased24 July 2011
On 30th July 2011 András Szabó, university professor, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, former member of the Hungarian Constitutional Court, doyen of the science of criminology in Hungary deceased.
András Szabó began to study law in Kolozsvár (today: Cluj-Napoca) at Bólyai University, in 1953 he graduated from the Faculty of Law of Eötvös Lóránd. University of Budapest. From 1953 he was a scientific researcher at the Institution of Legal and Political Sciences of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, later he became the head of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology. He obtained the academic doctoral degree in law in 1978 for his academic work in the field of criminology and criminal sociology. He was chairman of the Hungarian Criminology Society and of the Association for the Protection of Minorities, he was also full professor at the Faculty of Law of József Attila University in Szeged. He was elected Judge of the Constitutional Court in 1990. His mandate lasted until 1998 and he was Judge-Rapporteur of numerous significant cases.
The members and the colleagues of the Constitutional Court are mourning not only for the jurist, the famous professor, but also for the former member of great honour and respect.
